Dementia is one of the top priorities within the Isle of Wight Mental Health Transformation Programme. There is a joint approach to developing services for people with dementia between the Isle of Wight NHS CCG, IW NHS Trust, IW Council and Third Sector partners. Commissioning is also guided by government objectives which build upon the National Dementia Strategy. A Dementia Challenge Steering Group has been established locally to achieve this. The steering group membership comprises:

  • IWCCG
  • NHS
  • Local Authority
  • Voluntary Sector
  • Homes
  • Home Care providers
  • A service user

For those living or caring for people with dementia there are a number of e-learning modules that can be accessed to support in different areas of care. Links to these can be found on the right-hand side of the page listed under 'Module'.

Dementia Prevelance Tool
The Dementia Team use this new tool (sponsored by NHS South of England) which enables General Practices and Commissioners to establish a baseline by which to set local quantified ambitions for improvement in diagnosis rates, as set out in NHS Mandate 2012, and inform local joint strategic planning, commissioning, and service redesign and improvement. Further information about this tool can be found on the Dementia Partnerships website.
