What is Prevent?

Prevent focuses on working with vulnerable individuals who may be at risk of being exploited by radicalisers and subsequently drawn into extremist and/or terrorist-related activities.  The Prevent Strategy (2011) addresses all forms of terrorism including extreme right wing but continues to prioritise according to the threat posed to national security.  It operates in the pre-criminal space before any criminal activity has taken place

The CCG is ensuring that Prevent is embedded into the safeguarding adult quality schedule, so assurance of compliance by providers is obtained. All providers who have a standard NHS contract for Isle of Wight patients have been sent information regarding Prevent and who to contact if they have a concern.  Other intelligence/evidence is obtained by safeguarding meetings and Channel meetings.

If you have a concern about somebody, then please contact the Isle of Wight safeguarding team on 01983 814980
