From Dr Michele Legg, Chair, NHS Isle of Wight CCG

We are pleased to announce that a new autism diagnosis service for children and young people is due to start at the beginning of September.

Psicon Ltd and Healios Ltd will be working in partnership with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust to provide a service for the Island and will start seeing families who have been waiting for an assessment.

We recognise that it has taken longer than any of us would have wanted to set the new service up and we would like to apologise to all those families affected by this delay. Our priority has always been to ensure the service we provide is as safe and effective as possible and we are delighted that we are now able to offer this for families on the Island.

It will include weekday, weekend and evening appointments which we hope will mean a more convenient service, too.

We are writing to families this week to let them know how things will progress from here. We will be providing more detail about the new service and about the next steps for them, including information about how we will be allocating appointments. The first patients are due to be seen on Saturday 8th September.

We would like to thank all families for their patience during recent months and we are also very grateful to everyone who has provided help and support to get this new service in place.

Clearly this is just the start of the process. There is much more to be done to ensure that we can tackle any potential risks effectively and secure enough capacity within the service to keep any further delay in children being seen and assessed to an absolute minimum.

We will continue to work on this as the new service beds in and to ensure that we can deliver the best, and most effective, solution for families in the longer term.

The involvement of local families will continue to be vital in shaping this, in addition to what we have learned from the concerns and suggestions that have already been expressed.

The CCG's governing body discussed proposals for the redesign of acute services on the island and agreed with option 4. You can find out more about the proposals here.

On 1 February the CCG pledged to publish the questions submitted by members of the public relating to the ASR process, along with the responses to those questions. You can find out more here.
